ACL Surgery- thanks for your prayers

Erik got his ACL reconstructive surgery today. We are so thankful for our wonderful doctor. Dr. Thal did a great job. In addition to repairing Erik's ACL he also had to repair a torn meniscus. This means that Erik will be on crutches for the next few weeks. Please pray for a speedy and full recovery and that the kids are gentle with Daddy over the next few weeks.

Shef,

Bad luck man, but it comes and goes with the good. You're already back on the road to recovery, no doubt. I had a physical anthropology professor who attributes the weakness of the human knee (one of the most common sports injuries) to the relatively short evolutionary timeframe that we've been bipeds--too much weight too soon. Perhaps in another 4 million years, ACL injuries will be less common.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that your old school boys have you in their thoughts, and that your right arm looks dang buff in this blog picture where your holding Jotham. Rehab should be a breeze with a training ethic like that, and if not, just spread the knee out on pillows for photographs to make it look more robust.

My knee injury was a very depressing time. At that time in my life, I posited more of my future than just running in the health of my knees--or so I thought. If you ever get down, read Mark Zupan's "Gimp" for a different perspective.

All the best to your family.
