The Lord is Our Righteousness

Our church has been going through the book of Jeremiah and our pastor has encouraged us to read and study the book as we do. Today I was reading in Jeremiah 23:5-6 and was freshly reminded of God's wonderful plan of salvation.

"Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: 'The Lord is our righteousness.'"

These words written 1000 years before Christ was born testify to me again of God's mercy and grace and remind me that righteousness is mine only in Christ because of his death and resurrection. I cannot earn salvation. It is freely given to me through Christ. How Great He is!
